What are Life Groups?
Gateway Life Groups are small groups that meet in
homes or other friendly locations in order to provide
an environment for our growth as followers of Jesus.
Life Groups are a primary component of Gateway’s Growth Trail process,
which is designed to allow each of us to experience the presence of Christ,
to learn and practice living as followers of Jesus and enjoy the fellowship of
other Christians on our journey.
Why are Life Groups important?
Life Groups provide an environment where Gateway’s Mission and Vision
can be developed and lived out in community. Life Groups provide a place
for people to know and experience God (fresh starts), develop meaningful
relationships with other followers of Jesus (great friends), and to discover and
live out God’s plan for their lives (real purpose). Life Groups emphasize
- authentic Christian community
- personal and community growth
- hospitality within the group
- an open door to those wishing to become a part of the group
- service to those within and outside of the group
- a place where future group leaders can be developed.
When and how often do Life Groups meet?
Life Groups meet at various times and days throughout the week other than
Sunday morning. Groups meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Life Groups
meet in the fall and winter semesters.
Are all Life Groups the same?
No. Gateway provides a variety of Life Groups and you can choose which
group best meets your individual needs. The group offerings range from
Bible and related study, to prayer and worship, service, life skill issues and
common recreational interests. There is something for everyone.
How do Life Groups function?
Even though all the Life Groups are not the same, all of the groups have
similar ways that they operate. Each group allows time for connecting with
others and building great friendships, a time for discussion and reflection
on important life issues, time spent in sharing and caring for each other, and
time spent in prayer together. These are ways that authentic community
is built and that is a central purpose of Life Groups. We believe that we can
best know Christ and grow in relationship with Him through authentic
community.
Are Life Groups the only way to connect with others at Gateway?
There are other means of connecting with others including our Strategic
Ministry Teams and events. You can find out more about these by contacting
one of Gateway’s ministry team leaders.
